In an interview given this Tuesday (10) to the UOL website, the Sports Minister Ana Moser declared that she does not intend to invest in the electronic sports scenario (eSports). The minister’s statement caused negative repercussions in the community, and her words were targeted by criticisms and ironies on social media.
The eSports scene moves approximately $196 billion, which, if converted, is around R$ 1 trillion according to the 2022 Newzoo report.

“In my view, electronic sport is an entertainment industry, not a sport. So, you have fun playing video games, you had fun. ‘Oh, but people train for it.’ They train, just like an artist. I said the other day, just like Ivete Sangalo also trains to give a show, and she is not a music athlete. She is simply an artist who works with entertainment. The electronic game is not unpredictable. It is designed by digital, cybernetic programming. It is a closed programming, it is not open, like sport” – said the Sports Minister Ana Moser.
Bruno Goes (Nobru) responded to the Sports Minister’s statements in his Instagram stories;
“[…] eSports is a sport, yes. I think making the comparison you did with an artist like Ivete Sangalo, who trains to put on a show, to justify that eSports is not a sport just because a player trains, and ignoring the entire physical and mental preparation process that a player goes through to compete in a tournament. And so, if besides eSports, games are also entertainment, that shows people are seeking something more that games can offer. I beg your pardon, ma’am, but I think the difference lies in its unpredictability and your lack of knowledge of this gigantic market of ours, which moves millions and attracts thousands of people.” – said Nobru on his Instagram account.
Nobru made history in the Free Fire competitive scene; he won the Free Fire World Championship in 2019 playing for Corinthians, and currently, he is the CEO of Fluxo.
