ABOUT DEVIL MAY CRY

Devil May Cry (デビル メイ クライ, Debiru Mei Kurai?, “Devil’s Name”) is a series of action-adventure video games of the hack and slash genre, produced by Capcom ® and created by Hideki Kamiya. The series focuses on the protagonist Dante’s goal, who exterminates demons as a way to avenge his mother’s murder. The gameplay is based on defeating enemies by unleashing large sequences of frenzied attacks while avoiding possible damage, in order to display “stylish” fight scenes; this element, along with the time and amount of items collected and used, is taken into account to determine the player’s performance rating.
Vaguely inspired by the poem The Divine Comedy using allusions, the original game was conceived as part of the Resident Evil series but, as it deviated too much from the original idea, it was created independently with its own story.
The series has sold over 16 million units, with the games earning the “Platinum” title from Capcom ®. The protagonist Dante has also received much praise, becoming one of the most famous characters in the industry. The success of the series led to the creation of books, comics, an anime television series, publications, guides, and various collectible figures. During the Tokyo Game Show in 2010, Capcom ® revealed DMC: Devil May Cry, co-produced by Ninja Theory and Capcom ®. The game aimed to reboot the series with similar themes, satirizing society. At E3 2018, a new game, Devil May Cry 5, was revealed, launched in March 2019.
